The Colosseum
-
Flavian Amphitheater
-
This is the building that represents Rome more than any other building. This massive theater once used for all sorts of entertainment, can hold more than 50,000 spectators. Also, this beautiful work of architecture contains Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian elements and columns, on each level respectively.

I chose this as my example of Roman architecture because to me it is the embodiment of Roman culture. When the average person thinks of Italy, this is the first image that pops into their mind. “While stands the Colosseum, Rome shall stand; when falls the Colosseum, Rome shall fall; and when Rome falls- the World.”
